July 11, 2017 (week 91)

This week was good!

I think I have quite a bit to write, but this keyboard is awful, so we’ll see how long I last haha

So this week we will have 3 baptisms! Irene, Mateus and Jamile. They are all doing so well.

Irene is a lady of about 70 years. Lessons are always interesting with her. This week she said that when she was born she wasnt registered and recently she got an I.D. and when she got it (since she didnt have an official birthday) they put a birthdate that made her older than she actually was. And so she said she got sick for about 8 months because she got old really quick (aged various years in an instant) but she wasnt joking hahaha. She is awesome.

Mateus is 20 and has been progressing really well as well! He is extremely excited for his baptism. He was a Jehovas wittness for his whole life but about 3 years ago stopped going to church and got involved in some stuff. He said recently he was praying for direction and then we knocked on his door! Hes amazing.

Jamile is the daughter of Vilanir and Jovimar. Brother of Jovimar filho (that was baptized a few weeks ago) Shes 8 and also is excited to be baptized. Shes counting down the days! Every time she prays she prays that her parents can get married. (they are saving for marriage)

We also had zone conferences 4 days last week so everyone could get to know President Chamberlain. Everyone seems to love him! He definitely is special. On two of the days I trranslated for his wife that doesnt speak portuguese yet. Translating is hard haha, a lot different than just speaking. But I think everyone was able to understand (more or less haha)

In other news I might be getting transferred! Even before the transfers maybe.Which would be super exciting, as Ive been in this area for a long time.

Hope all is well at home!

This week was great! and crazy. super crazy. I actually have a ton to write about, so we’ll see how long I last before getting tired of typing haha

So starting of we had President Bonini’s last zone conference on tuesday which was super different, but it was a great experience. We worked super hard so that it could be something they remembered. We made them a flag that everyone signed and a book which everyone wrote a letter. We also put together a video with a few missionaries that have finished their missions. Ill attatch a ton of pictures. I think ill actually send 2 or three emails because I have a lot of pictures and I dont think you can send that much in one email.

So after that we spent the time getting ready for President Chamberlain and his wife who got here on friday! It was super exciting. And wow, they are incredible. President Chamberlain hasnt been to Brasil for 42 years, so hes relearning Portuguese and his wife doesnt speak hardly anything but he is relearning fast and and sure she´ll learn fast as well. Weve spent a lot of time with them these past few days and it has definitely been an incredible experience. On Sunday they came to watch José and Jovimar filho´s baptism which was great as well! Then we spent sunday afternoon with them at their house preparing for the 4 zone conferences were going to have next week. He also showed us a talk from elder Holland that was part of his training in the MTC that was unbelievable. They are super humble and will make an amazing President and wife to lead our mission. I wish I had more time here to see what itll be like after he gets farmiliarized with everything.

So outside of that… Bishop gave Osias a book called Our Heritage that speaks about the story of the early restored church, in less than a week he read the book and liked it so much hes reading it again!! he also has never stopped reading the Book of Mormon, and D&C as well. He also helps clean the church every Saturday! I love Osias 🙂

Okay… I cant really remember much else. The baptism of José and Jovimar filho was great!! Jovimars whole family came. (his parents are the ones who are saving to get married, although the dad is kind of resistent) José and Jovimar are both amazing! theyve progressed so well and will make excellent young men in the church. Jovimar filho is already thinking about serving a mission!

So I think thats about it. This week should be pretty busy with conferences every day (weve spent today preparing as well) but after I think it should go back to more or less normal. more or less haha

Love you guys! Hope all is well!

June 26, 2017 (week 89)

This week was good! I actually have quite a bit to write about I think.

So walking on the street here we pretty much talk to everyone, so every once in a while people do funny things to avoid talking to us. This week we were walking and a young man, probably about 18 years old, was about 10 yards from us. Then, out of nowhere, he started in full out sprint. I thought “wow he must be in a hurry to get somewhere” (okay well to be honest I didnt actually think that, 1 year and quite a few months of missionary service has taught me otherwise) then right when he passed us I looked back and he had stopped running hahah, sometimes you just gotta laugh.

Wendel came to church this week in a suit!! haha I love Wendel. People are shocked when then find out he was baptized so recently.

So this week Santhiago stopped us in the street. He was someone that we had contacted a month or so ago. We passed by his house when we marked with him, and a few other times, but he was never there, so we gave up. But he stopped us in the street (we didnt see him) and invited us to his house (which was close) and so we went. After teaching him he said that he was depressive and that he felt he should stop us, and that after he felt better. He said he knew that God put us in his path, he had finished work early that day which usually doesnt happen, and we happened to be on the same street that he took. He understood the restauration and said that he would pray about it. But we werent able to find him at home and he didnt come to church on Sunday.

He also had a few awesome tender mercies on Sunday! I think every day has them, but we usually end up forgetting. So one of them was that we were going to be a few minutes late for church (every Sunday morning we go to our investigators house and make sure everything is right for them to come to church and htis Sunday it took longer than normal) and so we were walking super fast to make up time, then and member stopped and asked us if we wanted a ride! We ended up getting there 5 mintutes early.

We are teaching the family of Jovimar and Vilanir. They have 3 kids, two of which or interested as well. Vilanir (the wife) has come to church 3 times, Jovimar hasnt come, Jovimar filho (15 year old son) has came twice and if everything works out will be baptized this week, and Jamile (8 year old daughter has came once. Vilanir is incredilbe! He had actually taught them before (i dont know if i mentioned them or not) but they didnt end up progressing. But a few weeks ago Vilanir said she wanted to come to church so we started teaching them again. She really wants to be baptized now, but shes not married, so she has to get married first. They are really really humble and so the biggest difficulty in getting married is having the money. But they are saving! Elder Vitor Luis gave them a piggy bank and its working out great! Obviously it wont pay for the marriage but its got them excited about it, at least Vilanir and Jamile. They sell din-din (little ice-cream-ish things) for 50 cents out of there door, and every time they sell one Jamile asks if she can put some of the money in the piggy bank so her parents can get married. Shes awesome! When she prays she asks that her whole famliy can come to church and that her parents can get married. Its amazing to see the faith of a chlid!

Hope all is well at home!

This week was good! Although I dont think I really have a ton to say.

Josivane was baptized!! Its been super fun to see her progressing over these few weeks. She was super excited but definitely nervous for her baptism, as you can probably tell in the picture.

So this week was transfers and Im staying in my area with my companion! 6th transfer in the area and 4th with my companion haha só vai.

Im doing well. We’re excited and definitely busy. This will be the last full week of President Bonini, then the week after will be a zone conference and then President Chamberlain gets here!

Well honestly I dont think I have anything else to say this week…

Hope all is well at home!

This week was great! Although once again I dont have a ton to write.

The bad news is that Alex pretty much fell off the map. We werent able to find him at home any day this week… We called his friend various times to see what was happening with him, but he didnt know very well. Although this friend got a hold of him and we are hoping to be able to teach him later today.

Other than this problem the semana was really good. Josivane is progressing supper well!! She is super excited for her baptism this week.

This is the last week of the transfer, although Im pretty sure Ill be staying here in the area. It would be my sixth transfer in the area and my fourth with my current companion haha. Its crazy to me the President Bonini is finishing his mission. He only has a few weeks left. Every is anxious for the coming of President Chamberlain, but President Bonini sure will be missed.

Hope all is well at home! Oh also I found mac and cheese here the other day!!!!! I dont even like mac and cheese, but Its been over a year and a half since ive had it so I logically had to buy some haha. Also I made doughnuts for the Elders that are in the same ward as us because they helped us move apartments (I dont remember if i said that we moved or not) Ill attach a picture of the doughnuts!

June 5, 2017 (week 86)

Crazy that it´s already June!! I dont think i really have much to write this week, although its a shame because this keyboard im using is great haha.

So our investigator who is progressing the most is Alex… I dont know what Ive said about him already, but he is great. He was super excited for his baptism on the 11th. He is going to college thats close to here and so hes living far from his family. Hes accepted the gospel so well and knows the church is true. However, on Sunday he told his mom he was going to get baptized and she did not like the idea. Not even a bit. Skipping over the details, Alex knows he should be baptized but said he wont go against his parents. We are going to try to strengthen his testemony this week so that he can have the faith to do what he knows is right. We’re going to bring Wendel to his house as well who had a similar problem which I think should help.

Well I dont really have much else to say.. im doing great here and hope all is going well at home. Its good to be a missionary!

This week was good. Although I dont think i have a ton to say.

The highlight of the week was that Jefferson(bruno´s brother) was baptized! And it was Bruno who baptized him! He received the preisthood during the week so he was able to.Also his family came! We have already tried to teach them a few times but it never really worked out. They liked church so we’re going to try to teach them again. Hopefully this time it goes better! It would be great to see them all at church together.

In other news a drunk man followed us and we ended up pretty much running from him haha. I dont knowwhy but drunk people LOVE missionaries. I cant explain why or how but its pretty much impossible to pass by someone drunk without something happening. But this time was a little different. We were knocking doors and someone touched me from behind and when i turned around i was given a flower from the drunk man haha. He tried to give one to my companion too but we just started to leave when we couldnt get him to stop touching us and what not. But then he started to follow us. We thought he would give up quick but he was pretty persistent. We started to walk fast and, as ive been in the area for more than 6 months and know it really well, we started entering in the alleys until we lost him haha. I dont think Ill ever really understand why drunk people love us so much…Although its something I wont miss after the mission haha.

Well I dont really have much else… Oh! This week we went to Wendels house to do a few visits with him and when we got there he was teaching two of his friends about the restauration!! He was actually giving them the pamphlet as they were leaving but he had taught them before. I think I felt the same pride that parents feel when their kids do some accomplishment haha hes been progressing suuuuuper well after his baptism!

Well I think thats all. I hope all is well at home!although from what people say here about Trump im not sure ill be able to enter back in the states after my mission hahah. Im doing well here! Til next week! Ill attatch pictures of Jeffersons baptisms! Someone from the ward made cake, but i wasnt ableto take a picture
